Skyler & Allie's Wedding

Here's some of the stuff I put together for my wedding in October.

To give you a little background, the theme of the wedding was vintage travel. Allie and I both love to travel and have a love for well made old crap. So for our invites, we bought some old postcards on eBay, made a stamp and printed them on the postcards. The site and email then followed that same theme and style.

There were a few things that probably could have been thought out a little better. Specifically it seemed people got kind of confused with my weird way of doing the YES / NO fields on the RSVP form. I even confused myself when I finally went to use it and realized how terrible it was. Looks nice... doesn't work very well.

For literally spending maybe 10ish hours on design + about 5 hours for Mike to code it, I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. He was able to setup a simple admin interface that would allow me to approve or deny RSVPs in case anyone tried to sign up and wasn't invited. It was also handy for when people would RSVP and then cancel.

I also created some follow up email templates that I sent out using Mail Chimp. These were designed to look similar to the invitation post cards we sent out and even used the same stamps. Whenever anyone would RSVP, they'd get a thank you email and I'd add them to my list so that when the wedding got closer we were able to use that email list to send everyone info about parking, where to stay, where to eat, etc. Not only was it a lot easier than paper mailers, it was a lot cheaper and was able to be done last minute and still get there on time!

I don't know why there aren't more sites out there like what we put together. That's really all I needed in a wedding website. All the packaged sites out there were terribly designed and bloated with a ton of "features" that we really didn't want. It was nice to be able to put something together that was just right. And it really took a lot of the headache out of managing the guest list.
